...Wintry Mix Tonight, Heavy Snow Possible Saturday Evening...
.A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will work through
the region overnight and into Saturday morning, creating slick
travel conditions for many areas. Snow amounts of 1 to 2 inches
are expected, primarily north of Interstate 90, while ice amounts
of one to two-tenths of an inch are possible into southwest
Wisconsin and northeast Iowa.
Precipitation will change to mainly light rain or drizzle for a
time on Saturday, before changing back to snow for areas mainly
near and west of the Mississippi River by evening. Snow could fall
heavily at times, with accumulation of 4 to 9 inches possible. In
addition, very strong northwest winds gusting 40 to 50 mph are
likely as the snow diminishes Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Those winds will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow, with
travel likely to become treacherous for some areas. Some roads
could be drifted shut. Plan now for the wintry conditions and
consider changing travel plans if possible.
